AUBURN — Walter Mathis Jr., a former blue-chip prospect and LSU defensive lineman, has signed with Auburn football out of the transfer portal, a source confirmed to the Montgomery Advertiser.

Mathis is the second Auburn signing of the day, joining Oregon State offensive line transfer Jacob Strand, and he's the 27th transfer addition for the Tigers. Mathis is just the fourth addition to Auburn's defensive line during this transfer portal, joining Appalachian State transfer Saint Farrior and Arkansas State transfer Cody Sigler. Auburn has also added Nate Johnson, an edge rusher from Missouri, through the transfer portal.

A true freshman in 2025, Mathis played in 12 games for LSU, registering nine tackles.

Mathis, a Georgia native, had more than 30 offers out of high school, and he signed with LSU over Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Miami and Texas, among several others.
