A case of mistaken identity has resolved an incident involving Samson Nacua, the brother of Los Angeles Rams star receiver Puka Nacua, and Los Angeles Lakers rookie Adou Thiero. According to a report from NBC4 Los Angeles, Thiero will not pursue charges after it was determined Samson Nacua accidentally took Thiero's car, believing it to be his brother's similar vehicle.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated that the 27-year-old Samson Nacua took the car under the mistaken belief it was his brother's SUV, which is the same model, color, and only about a year older. The vehicle, initially reported stolen last month, was located at a hotel in West Hollywood. Another individual in the car, Trey Rose, was also briefly detained but cleared after investigators confirmed he was unaware the car had been reported stolen.
Thiero recognized the incident as an honest mistake and declined to press charges. Deputies have subsequently requested the Los Angeles County Attorney's Office reject the case.
Samson Nacua, a wide receiver who played collegiately at Utah and BYU, has pursued a professional career in the USFL and UFL since going undrafted in 2022. He was recently selected by the Birmingham Stallions in this year's UFL draft. The arrest last month occurred during a turbulent period for the Nacua family, as Puka was simultaneously fined $25,000 by the NFL for comments criticizing officiating and apologized for a separate incident involving a promised antisemitic touchdown celebration on a live stream.
Thiero, a second-round pick traded to the Lakers in a multi-team deal, has seen limited action in his rookie season.
