Late December and the beginning of January were busy in women's boxing as several ranked fighters were in action.

The biggest change in the rankings happened in the middleweight division courtesy of Kaye Scott's 10-round majority decision win over Olivia Curry to claim the vacant WBA and WBC women's middleweight titles on Dec. 20. Scott, who entered the fight as ESPN's No. 4-ranked middleweight, swaps places with Curry, who came in at No. 3. It was a return bout from their majority draw in September, which was an all-action showdown. In the rematch, Scott was the aggressor and used a sharp jab to control the range and keep Curry's attack in check. Scott finally becomes a unified champion in her third attempt at a world championship.

After back-to-back loses to Katie Taylor at junior welterweight, unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano returned to form with a dominant unanimous decision win over Reina Tellez on Jan. 3 in Puerto Rico. With the victory, Serrano maintains her No. 1 spot in the featherweight rankings.

In the co-main event, Stephanie Han defeated boxing and MMA legend Holly Holm by unanimous technical decision. Han was sharp in retaining her WBA lightweight title. She moves up a spot to No. 4. The division's No. 1 fighter, Caroline Dubois, was excellent in her stateside debut, outpointing Camilla Panatta on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul on Dec. 19.

Rankings are updated every Tuesday. They're based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven't fought in 18 months and don't have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
