The Los Angeles Lakers authored a statement victory Tuesday night, erasing a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat the Denver Nuggets 115-107 at Ball Arena. Luka Doncic powered the comeback with his fifth triple-double of the season, finishing with 38 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The win, which silenced a raucous Denver crowd, showcased the Lakers' resilience amid a challenging stretch. Despite losing starting center Deandre Ayton to a left eye injury in the second quarter, Los Angeles locked down defensively after halftime, holding the Nuggets to just 36 points over the final two quarters.
"Just contributions from everybody," said head coach JJ Redick, praising the efforts of Jaxson Hayes (9 points, 5 rebounds) and the bench.
Doncic, the league’s leading All-Star vote-getter, was spectacular. After scoring 16 points on perfect shooting in the first quarter, he orchestrated the offense in the second half, scoring or assisting on 11 consecutive Lakers points during the third-quarter rally. "It showed the character of our team," Doncic said. "We just stayed together."
LeBron James added 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists, overcoming a sluggish start to dominate the second half. Defensive stalwart Marcus Smart ignited the decisive 16-0 fourth-quarter run, scoring 11 of his 15 points during the burst.
The Nuggets, playing without MVP Nikola Jokić (knee) and two other starters, faded late despite 26 first-half points from Jamal Murray.
The victory improves the Lakers to 26-16 as they embark on a critical eight-game road trip, providing a timely boost ahead of the February 5 trade deadline.
