The American Express 2026 purse, payouts: Will anyone challenge Scottie Scheffler this week at PGA West?

The PGA Tour's California swing begins this week with one of the strongest fields in the history of The American Express, headlined by the 2026 season debut of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler, coming off a historic six-win season and a fourth consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year award, enters as the overwhelming +300 betting favorite. "I feel like my game's in a good spot," Scheffler said Tuesday. "I'm definitely excited to get out there and start another season."

The tournament features five of the world's top 10 and 12 of the top 25 players, including Russell HenleyRob MacIntyreBen Griffin, and Justin Rose. Defending champion Sepp Straka returns to challenge for the $9.2 million purse and 500 FedExCup points at PGA West in La Quinta.
